Fact of the week – Birth rates around the world

This fact of the week relates to the rate of birth in a population over time. In 2012, the average global birth rate was 19.15 births per 1,000 total populations, as compared to 2007, when the rate was 20.09 births per 1,000 total populations. This average hides huge disparity around the word.
Birth rates vary within a geographical area: whereas the lowest birth rate has been registered in Hong Kong (7,42 births per 1,000 people), the country with the highest birth rate is Niger (51,26 births per 1,000 people).

In Europe, birth rate is not very high: in the UK, it is near 13 per 1,000 people an increase of 2,4 percent compare to 2011; Ireland’s birth rate is 16.5 per 1000 and France has a birth rate of 12.8 per thousand.
